ABR takes on Elephant for charity...

An ex-military ABR, who left the forces due to injury, is doing the Elephant Rally solo, to raise money for Help For Heroes.

40-year-old John Mclain (no, not that one!) is planning to tackle the gruelling Bavarian rally on a Honda Transalp, which will see him cover 3,000 in eight days in the depths of winter, to raise a target £5,000 for the charity.

“I’m a very lucky boy,” says John, sales manager at Phoenix Honda, Grangemouth. “I was injured on duty in N.Ireland, but after a few operations on my hands and leg, I’m fully fit and I’ve still got all my digits."

"Me and my best mate from the military were originally planning to do the Elephant together, but he’s now injured and will be in rehab until the end of January, so I thought why not do the ride for charity? Help For Heroes seems a fitting choice under the circumstances.”

The Transalp Set for the off

John’s journey will take him from his home in Scotland on 25 January through the UK, France, Germany and the Bavarian Alps to reach the Elephant Rally in
Thurmansbang, East Germany, on 27 January, where he plans to camp in sub-zero conditions before departing for the three-day trip home. And just like his namesake, John, aka ‘Yippy’, is well prepared.

“I’ve been fully trained in Artic conditions, and have been fortunate enough to try all my kit in the worst of the Scottish weather,” he explains. “I’ll also be taking the new adventure range of clothing from RST, SIDI adventure boots, and the good old Alpinestar Apex gloves, plus a Snug Bug heated jacket, and an Arctic sleeping bag!”

It’s not all cold comfort for John though. “I’m looking forward to taking my time and enjoying the experience,” he says. “My friends and family all think I’m nuts! But that’s because they don’t have any adventure in them.”

Probably one of our greatest launch nights ever saw over 200 people attend theCharity Launch Night of the all new 2012 Fireblade in association with the charityHelp for Heroes. Not only was there full appreciation for this iconic machine, wewere able to attract great interest in Johns forthcoming adventure to Bavariain January, where he will embark on a 3000 mile round trip on one of our ownTransalps to the Elephant Rally. 2012 will see the introduction of some exciting new models, starting with thenew Crosstourer, an Adventure Sports Tourer that boasts the same engine as theVFR1200f with our Dual Clutch Transmission system as an option. The Crosstoureris likely to be launched at the beginning of February so watch this space for furtherdetails.

The commuter world will have a greater selection with the introduction of theNC750s and NC750x models along with the exciting Integra Scooter. All the bikesshould be in the showroom around Spring. We also have an exciting offer on all125cc Scooters with prices starting from £2050 for our Commuter Vision packagethat includes bike clothing and CBT test.

Its going to be a very busy year with lots of bike launches and lots of rideouts to beorganised, so come in and don’t miss out.

John prepares to Help our Heroes

Well its winter again and time for a little adventure, so i will be going over to Bavaria for the rally at the end of January, and yes i will be riding all the way but this time its for charity.

The Elephant rally is a rememberance rally for all those that have lost loved ones.

I will be going for the charity Help 4 Heroes.

I will keep a blog as best i can while away but not sure about the internet connections over there so there may be a few added on my return, it should take me about a week, snow depending...

There will be an open night with raffles, food, drink, and more on the 15th december 2011..6pm at Phoenix Honda Grangemouth.

About Help for Heroes

The charity Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 in order to provide direct, practical support to those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11. All the funds raised to date are either allocated or spent on the direct, practical support of those wounded in the current conflicts.

To date, H4H has funded a variety of projects including the £8m Rehabilitation Complex at Headley Court, a new £3.5m treatment centre for Combat Stress, adaptive adventure training through the Battle Back programme and the creation of a £6m Quick Reaction Fund to support individuals in need.

Phoenix Honda Bikes road trip to Oulton Park

Saturday 16th July Oulton Park British Super Bike Championship Round 7.

John McLain of Phoenix Honda Grangemouth took 20 customers down to Oulton Park and here is what he had to say about it.

Oulton park is situated in Cheshire and is one of the more spectacular circuits of the series, at 06.00, 20 riders set of from phoenix Honda motorcycles here at grangemouth for the 240 mile ride closely followed by the van... or so we thought, torrential rain stopped 7 even getting to the meet up points but fortunately 13 made it although 10 turned up in cars!,

The ride down for Anne and robin fox and myself was to say the least wet, however on reaching the circuit and entering Hondas hospitality suit makes it all worth while, we had lunch with Keith amor, Shane shaky burn, Ryuichi Kiyonari, and the legend that is John McGuiness, after lunch it was a tour of the garage to see the bikes being prepped and onto the pit walk all vip courtesy of Honda and hosted by Fiona Cole who did a fantastic job of keeping us in check and certainly new her stuff !

Then once all done its over to the campsite for a BBQ and refreshment, and the camp party began... Up at 7.00 for more bacon butties and lots of tea and coffee, camp packed and on to the circuit for the days racing, even in the rain it is an awesome circuit with lots of action, the ride home again the heavens opened and did not let up until almost home.

All in all a fantastic weekend, even torrential rain failed to dampen the spirits of the 13 of us that made it.

These are the bikes that will be available to customers to test ride. Customers must bring their Driving Licence and must have held it for 2 years. There will also be refreshments available. On the Day there will be a Barbeque for your enjoyment and Stunt Riders for your entertainment so will be a fantastic day.

Hi everyone, Well thats the launch weekend over so thanks to all of you that turned up. The weekend went well and the curry went down well. Overall reaction to the new bikes was a good one. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as nice for the sunday for test rides but didnt put everyone off. The sale is still running upstairs in the clothing department. Hi Everyone,
Hopefully you are all coming to join us tomorrow for the launch of the VFR1200F and the VT1300CX Fury. Two fantastic bikes. Well for those of you coming on your own motorbike the service department are offering a complimenatry health check for your bike. Only between the hours of 12noon and 5pm. Also they are offering MOT's which are carried out inhouse by our Full Qualified Honda Motorbike Technicians for £20. So all in all its going to be a fantatsic weekend full of amazing offers.

Hi There Gordon,

Well there has been no final decision made yet as to whether it is going to be launched during the day or at night time but yes you would just turn up. The test rides will be on the sunday weather permitting however. I will keep you updated as soon as I hear the final decision.

Phoenix Honda Grangemouth is launching the New VFR1200f and The Fury Custom bike on the Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th February 2010 there will be refreshments available.

These are the first time these bikes will be shown in Scotland so don't miss out. Also the clothing and accessories department upstairs will be having a fantastic sale to make way for the launch of the Spring /Summer range hopefully coming out in March but will keep you up to date on that.
